HSLS hosts an online collection that includes high-quality educational resources. Instead of creating material from scratch, you can use content from the collection to build courses more efficiently. As you work to review, redesign, or develop new courses for the fall, consider browsing our catalog for relevant material or collaborating with liaison librarians for help finding and selecting resources.
Because HSLS licenses over 100 databases that contain a wide range of content, it can be challenging to find relevant material. To illustrate, although users may be familiar with using ClinicalKey to access e-books, the platform also hosts resources such as videos, images, and disease summaries to support student learning. To mitigate this issue, librarians have curated content for course development on the Reusable educational content from HSLS resources subject guide and selected HSLS-licensed multimedia is highlighted on the Streaming Media page.
Highlighting complementary study resources for students increases equitable access and reduces pressure to purchase outside study tools. The Exam Review page features resources that include study tools such as practice exams and quizzes. As an example, HSLS partners with health sciences anatomy instructors to license Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy. Course instructors can link to videos to complement course content, and students can be directed to the self-assessment exams for extra practice.
A liaison librarian can assist you in finding and integrating these licensed resources. If the perfect resource doesn’t exist, a librarian with relevant expertise can create new content to deliver synchronously or embed as videos and modules in your Canvas course. Liaisons can also create a custom course-based guide with curated resources like the Medical Student Orientation subject guide, created as a supplemental resource for the in-person event.
