HSLS provides access to several resources that present both real and fictional case studies for use in teaching and studying in the health sciences. Utilizing case studies in health sciences education encourages critical thinking, enhances problem-solving skills, and challenges students with a real-world context for information learned in the classroom.

Journaling for Well-Being at Falk Library
Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious? Did you know that journaling, writing down your feelings and thoughts, can help bring relief? Come to the new Falk Library Classroom on Wednesday, May 10, at noon for a Journaling for Well-Being Workshop.
Presenters from the University Counseling Center will talk about how you can write away some of your internal tensions and fears. Peer-Reviewed Preprints
In 2016, we introduced preprints and search.bioPreprint, then a newly minted HSLS-developed search engine for the immediate discovery of new biomedical research. Preprints are the research papers that authors post to a server before the formal peer-review process and publication in an academic journal. At that time, preprints had just started gaining traction among the research community. Things have dramatically changed in the past seven years; realizing the benefit of rapid dissemination of scientific findings, posting preprints is now becoming a common practice for researchers.

We’ll then take a deeper dive into how an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCiD) helps distinguish yourself from other researchers, keeps your scholarly record up to date, and automates other researcher profile systems to showcase your impact.

Treasures from the Rare Book Room: A New Look at 16th-Century Anatomy
Falk Library’s facsimile of Anatomia depicta, published in Rome in 2010, replicates the original from the Florentine library. It is accompanied by a volume of commentaries (with transcription and translation of the manuscript), a wooden display case, and a protective plexiglass cover. It is the newest addition to HSLS Special Collections.
