Open Science with OSF

Open science practices like registering your research plan before beginning experiments, archiving your data, and sharing your code in Github can help increase the trustworthiness of your research results. But getting started with open science can seem daunting. If you’re looking for low-barrier ways to make your research more reproducible, consider OSF, the Open Science Framework.

OSF was built to make open science more effortless by putting multiple tasks in one place. Do you want to pre-register your study so that you can lay claim to your idea, declare your hypothesis before results are known, and avoid confirmation bias (including p-hacking) by choosing statistical tests in advance of data collection? You can register a study in OSF using templates for general research or systematic reviews.

Remote Access to HSLS Resources

Are you working from home or somewhere off-campus and need access to an e-journal article or an e-book at 4 a.m. on a Sunday? No problem! You can access HSLS resources remotely.

Pitt Passport

Remote access for library resources requires a valid Pitt username and password, plus a second method of verification through an app or phone line. This is called multifactor authentication, which can be done in three steps. If you have problems setting up multifactor authentication, contact the Pitt IT Help Desk at 412-624-4357. Once you’ve successfully set up multifactor authentication, you won’t have to do it again.

Modernization of ClinicalTrials.gov

On June 25, 2024, the classic ClinicalTrials.gov website was retired. The modernized ClinicalTrials.gov is now the exclusive website experience for learning about and searching for clinical studies. This major milestone is part of NLM’s multi-year ClinicalTrials.gov modernization effort, which has been guided by stakeholder engagement, input from the NLM Board of Regents Public Service Working Group, and a user-centered design approach.

Visit ClinicalTrials.gov to learn more about the website modernization.

Keeping track of everything in a project that you should plan for, and write about, is complicated. But what if it didn’t have to be? There are tools, i.e. health research reporting guidelines, that are easily and freely accessible and that will help you work more efficiently, guide your project development (i.e. your protocol, grant submission, and IRB submission), and improve the transparency of your writing. These tools — health research reporting guidelines — have been around since the mid-1990s but are incredibly underutilized.
