The HSLS Staff News section includes recent HSLS presentations, publications, staff changes, staff promotions, degrees earned, etc.


Nelson Galloway, administrative specialist, has transferred to the Director’s Office. He previously worked in HSLS Technical Services and, before that, in WPIC Library. His new responsibilities include serving as facilities and asset manager, and assistance with general administrative duties.

On Thursday, June 25, HSLS staff members joined with other community volunteers to help with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank’s mass food distribution project in Duquesne.


Jonathon Erlen, history of medicine librarian, published “Dissertations in the History of Pharmacy” in Pharmacy in History, 51(1):32-33, 2009 and “Recent Dissertations on the History of Spectacles” in Hindsight: Journal of Optometry History, 39(4):141-142, 2008.

Reference librarians Mary Lou Klem, Ester Saghafi, and Rebecca Abromitis, along with co-authors Angela Stover1, Mary Amanda Dew2 and Paul Pilkonis2 published “Building PROMIS Item Banks: Librarians as Co-Investigators” in Quality of Life Research, June 23, 2009. [Epub ahead of print]

Mary Jo Dorsey, reference librarian, is leaving to pursue a National Library of Medicine post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dorsey joined HSLS in 2008.

Daniel Higgins, circulation specialist, is leaving to pursue a law degree at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Higgins joined HSLS in 2004.
