Our goal in offering instruction is to help you (or your students) be a more efficient, effective researcher – and this includes getting grants, analyzing your data, publishing papers about your research, and more. Whether you are staff, faculty, postdoc, resident, fellow, or student, read on to learn about what HSLS can teach you how to do.
We offer instruction covering a range of categories, including:
- Citation Management: Determine which citation manager is best for you and then dive in with basic and advanced EndNote and Zotero classes.
- Data Science: Organize, use, share, and increase the reproducibility of your research data.
- Finding Literature: Augment your skills in finding the papers you need to support your work.

- Molecular Biology: Learn how to use databases and software tools for your bioinformatics research projects.

- Option 1: The Learn @ HSLS page offers a list of the topics we teach. Browse the topics and see what catches your fancy – and then click on the topic to see what options are available. Here you’ll find a mix of:
- HSLS Live Classes – offered mainly on Zoom but sometimes in person.
- HSLS Self-Paced Learning Modules – learning experiences built online in Canvas so that you can learn from us anytime, anywhere, at your own pace.
- Option 2: Want to see what we’re offering live this week/month/term? Check out the HSLS Events Calendar and find something interesting that fits into your schedule.
What about instruction for the Pitt course you teach, or for a group you learn alongside? Liaison librarians are available to customize classes or presentations for your course or group. They can also assist in creating meaningful assignments and assessments.
