Find us on Campus at Falk Library

Falk Library of the Health Sciences offers spectacular facilities, providing study spaces, Main Desk services, a wide range of technology, the Health Science IT’s Media Production studio and Emerging Technology Lab, new and historical book collections, and rotating events and displays. Falk Library is the library for all the Pitt health sciences: Dental Medicine, Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

Location

Our location in Alan Magee Scaife Hall is central to health sciences on campus. Once you’ve navigated to the building, find the library on the Mezzanine (M) floor, just below Floor 3. If you’re coming from Lothrop Street, the lower building entrance leads you directly onto the M floor, and the library is just a few steps away! The library has regular operating hours seven days a week.

Main Desk

The Main Desk of Falk Library is your one-stop shop for many of the services and resources that the library has to offer. Ask our friendly staff your question – whether that’s directions to the nearest restroom or printer, or getting started with your research question. You can check out books and borrow technology equipment by presenting your Pitt ID. Main Desk is also the check-in location for our popular Group Study Rooms – four large rooms and four smaller rooms, each with tables and large digital screens.

Study Spaces and Technology

Study spaces in the library provide great options for individuals and groups. The custom study carrels are comfortable, semi-private, and feature individual lighting. Some study carrels are located in designated quiet study rooms. Booths and table seating are also sought-after options for working alongside peers. Table outlets are numerous for your personal technology, and there are many self-service technology options available in the library. Whiteboards with markers are located throughout both floors of the library to enhance note-taking and brainstorming.

Media Production Studio and Emerging Technology Lab

Health Sciences IT is now offering two new services that are housed in the library: the Media Production Studio and the Emerging Tech Lab. Dedicated staff are available to assist you with a range of AR/VR, video, and broadcasting projects.

Book Collections

As a supplement to our vast eBook collection, the General Collection houses books in health sciences topics. The Rare Book Room is home to fascinating materials from the history of medicine, while our Medical Humanities Collection encourages the interdisciplinary study of the arts, literature, psychology, history, and culture, as they relate to healthcare. The Leisure Reading Collection offers newly published general fiction and non-fiction books as a chance to take a much-needed study break.

Events, Displays, and Activities

We kick off the beginning of each semester with Welcome Back snacks and offer snacks again during final exam times. A range of wellness activities, such as games and art, are offered throughout the year, along with displays within the library. Keep an eye on the Happening in Falk Library article that appears in this newsletter monthly to plan your visit around what interests you most!
