You can now take a virtual deep dive into some of the most exciting materials from the History of Medicine’s Rare Book Room via our new website HSLS Digital Exhibits & Collections. We have digitized items from our rare books and special collections so that you can access some of our holdings without needing to physically visit the library.
Over ten exhibits/collections are currently available to explore, including:
- A full-text scan of an issue of West Penn Clinic, a Pittsburgh medical journal, from 1895.
- Video excerpts from Scope and Scalpel, a musical that has been written and performed by Pitt Med’s graduating class each year since 1955.
- An exhibit depicting what life was like for the average Pittsburgh medical student in the 1890s.
- Images of 18th– and 19th-century medical instruments, including an amputation surgical set.
If you’re interested in learning more about a particular collection or item you see on the website, please contact HSLS History of Medicine. New exhibits and collections will be added to the site regularly, so be sure to check back for updates!
