New Open Access Publishing Agreement with Elsevier

We are excited to announce that the Health Sciences Library System, in partnership with the University Library System, has signed a new publishing agreement that allows Pitt and UPMC corresponding authors to make their articles open access, at no cost to the author, in eligible Elsevier journals. By choosing to make your article open access, your work will be immediately available to anyone (not just subscribers), giving your research more exposure. Publishing open access may also increase your academic research impact.

Before submitting your manuscript under this agreement, read the following to be sure that you and your article are eligible.

  • Discount or funding available*: Article Publishing Charges (APCs) fully covered (no cost to author) for most hybrid Elsevier journals to which Pitt is a paid subscriber, and a 10% discount in eligible Cell Press journals. *Subject to availability within an overall cap.
  • Exclusions: Gold open access journals are excluded from this agreement (with limited exceptions).
  • Who is eligible: Corresponding authors currently enrolled as students or employed at the University of Pittsburgh or UPMC (must specify Pitt or UPMC as institutional affiliation in the manuscript submission process).
  • Article types: Case reports, data in briefs, full-length articles, micro-articles, original software publications, practice guidelines, protocols, review articles, replication studies, short communications, short surveys, and video articles.
  • For more information: See Elsevier’s agreement page.

To learn more about our other publishing agreements, see the HSLS Open Access LibGuide for the most up-to-date information.

If you have questions about any of these publishing agreements, or would like to learn about other ways to make your articles and other research outputs open, please reach out to HSLS Publishing Services and a librarian will be in touch.
