Modernized ClinicalTrials.gov Website

The modernized ClinicalTrials.gov officially launched on June 21, 2023. The world’s largest clinical trial and results registry, ClinicalTrials.gov contains information about nearly 450,000 clinical research studies, including information about study results. Overall improvements to the website include standard features to ease navigation and optimize use of the site on mobile devices.

The search interface has been simplified by combining features of the original basic and advanced search tools, and suggested terms are now provided when words are misspelled in the “Condition or disease” and “Other terms” fields. On the search results page, two viewing options (“Card View” and “Table View”) are available: “Table View” allows users to select and re-order columns, allowing for easier onscreen organization and comparison of information across studies, and additional filter options are available. The study record format has been reconfigured to make navigation easier and the “Record History” tab has been re-organized so that selected information can be viewed in historical versions of a study record.

Additional behind-the-scenes changes include release of an enhanced application programming interface (API), instructions and guidance for migrating to the new API, and a “What’s New” page (under “About This Site” in the main menu). A beta version of the modernized Protocol Registration & Results System (PRS) is also currently available to users who wish to enter actual trial registration information and provide feedback for future beta releases.
