Historical Hospital Indexes Now Digitized

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, U.S. National Library of Medicine, Digital CollectionsThe National Library of Medicine (NLM) has fully digitized the Hospital and Health Administration Index, Hospital Literature Index, and Cumulative Index of Hospital Literature. All three resources are now available as part of the NLM Digital Collections. The Digital Collections is a free online repository of biomedical resources including books, still images, videos, and maps. All resources are in the public domain, unless otherwise indicated.

All three indexes contain citations to journal articles about hospital and other health care facilities, delivery of health care, and health care administration. Years of coverage in the Digital Collections repository include:

  • Cumulative Index of Hospital Literature, approximately 1945-1977
  • Hospital Literature Index, approximately 1957-1994
  • Hospital and Health Administration Index, 1995-2000

You can view the indexes as text documents, PDFs, or OCR Texts.
