Rose Turner has been promoted to Coordinator of Liaison Services. In this position, she will provide leadership to the library’s established liaison program and will coordinate efforts to develop optimal approaches for integrating research support, instruction, and scholarship activities into the schools of the health sciences.

Elaina Vitale has been promoted to Academic and Data Services Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Middle Atlantic Region (NNLM MAR), based at HSLS. This position has an expanded role in aligning NNLM MAR programs for academic libraries with evolving National Library of Medicine initiatives.

Presentations

Michelle Burda, NNLM MAR Education and Health Literacy Coordinator, presented “Engage for Health: Taking an Active Role in Your Health Care” at the Where to Turn Resource Fair in Pittsburgh, PA, on October 23, 2018. Burda exhibited and shared NLM’s health information resources with social service, human resource, education, and health care professionals from the Western Pennsylvania region.

Lydia N. Collins, Participant Engagement Lead of the All of Us Training & Education Center (TEC), Jennifer Jones, TEC Executive Director, Christian I.J. Minter, Community Engagement and Health Literacy Librarian, University of Nebraska Medical Center, et al., presented “Transforming Communities through Health Outreach and Programming” at the 3rd National Joint Conference of Librarians of Color in Albuquerque, NM, on September 26, 2018. At the same conference, Collins, along with Yamila El-Khayat, Outreach Services Librarian, University of Arizona, Darlene Cavalier, Professor of Practice, School for the Future of Innovation in Society, Arizona State University, et al., presented “All of Us Research Program and Libraries: New Opportunities for Community Engagement and Citizen Science” on September 28, 2018.

Veronica Leigh Milliner, NNLM MAR All of Us Community Engagement Coordinator, who completed her two-year term as a committee member on the Managing Children’s Services Committee of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) within the American Library Association, helped coordinate a webinar on advocacy for youth library staff titled “Advocacy for Everyone” which was presented on October 3, 2018. Milliner also presented “Beyond an Apple a Day: Providing Consumer Health Information at Your Library” and “Activate, Collaborate, Educate: Health Outreach and Programming in Your Community” for the Western New York Library Resources Council in October 2018 and conducted training for public libraries in counties in Northern Pennsylvania for their professional development day.

Elaina Vitale, NNLM MAR Academic and Data Services Coordinator, presented “Citizen Science and Libraries” at the Pennsylvania Library Association Annual Meeting in Harrisburg, PA, on October 17, 2018. Vitale also presented “Collaboration and Innovation: NNLM’s Nationwide Online Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon” at the Documents Association of New Jersey Annual Meeting in Trenton, NJ, on October 26, 2018.
