NEW Workshop Series
The Molecular Biology Information Service (MBIS) of the Health Science Library System (HSLS) and the Center for Postdoctoral Affairs in the Health Sciences are pleased to announce a new “how to” workshop series taught by biomedical postdocs at the University of Pittsburgh.

Location: Falk Library Classroom 2 (upstairs)
Workshops will last 1-2 hours.
Registration is NOT required.

August

  • 28th (10:30 am): Varsha Shridhar: “Visualizing methylation profiles on UCSC Genome Browser & correlation of methylation w/expression data”

September

  • 9th (10:30 am): Teresa Liu: “DNA/RNA immunoprecipitation & next generation sequencing”
  • 17th (1 pm): Tejas Tirodkar: “How to process histology images in Photoshop”

October

  • 1st (3 pm): Lisa Gurski: “Choosing the best 3D matrix for your cell culture needs”
  • 10th (12 pm): Emily Wickline: “How to prepare a CV (grad students & postdocs)”
  • 17th (10 am): Ethan Block: “Adding mechanistic insight through signal transduction research”

Modeled after the MBIS workshops, postdoc instructors are encouraged to teach a 1-2 hour workshop to a class of no more than 24 attendees. The specific topic is up to the discretion of the postdoc, but is a “how to” style talk rather than a seminar. The MBIS works with postdocs to create a workshop that is both a positive teaching experience and instructive to attendees.

Please note that the topic can be ANYTHING related to health sciences, not specifically molecular biology or bioinformatics.

All postdoc instructors receive feedback, a letter of acknowledgement, and optional videotaping of their session. Contact MBIS if you are interested in teaching a class in the next series.
