NNLM All of Us Program (NAPC)
The NAPC is a multi-faceted center managed through HSLS and Hardin Library at the University of Iowa. NAPC coordinates engagement, programs, partnerships, activities, and training offered by NNLM in support of the NIH All of Us Research Program. All of Us is a research initiative seeking to collect biomedical data from one million people across the US, to support precision medicine and diversify the data available for biomedical research.
There are two main functional areas of the NAPC: Training and Education, led by HSLS and Community Engagement, led by Hardin Library. These two functional areas collaborate to design, deliver, evaluate, and report on programs and services that increase awareness of the All of Us Research Program and that improve the health, digital, and related literacy skills that allow the public to participate in long-term clinical research programs. Additionally, the NAPC collaborates with the All of Us Consortium to develop, maintain, and host national training for the Program.
NAPC Accomplishments for FY 23
- Developed seven asynchronous online trainings for the All of Us Consortium, on topics such as Genetics 101, Researcher Workbench Controlled Tier Training 2023, and Mobile Engagement Assets Training.
- Two FY 23 trainings involved partnership with the University of Pittsburgh Center on Race and Social Problems (CRSP) to create hybrid synchronous and asynchronous learning about racial equity. The success of these trainings led to a longer-term partnership with CRSP with plans to expand the reach of the learning material for both Consortium and public library audiences in FY 24.
- Consultation and collaboration in the development of new high-priority trainings with NIH-level program teams, including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Integrated Project Team, and working directly with the new Director of Pediatrics and Peds Engagement Integrated Project Team.
- Expanded partnership with SciStarter for Citizen Science 365, creating continuous public library-based engagement throughout the year with new programming to further enhance community science learning.
- Led the All of Us Consortium Training (ACT) Board to prioritize national Consortium training development, piloting, launch and evaluation.
- Conducted a Consortium Training needs assessment to evaluate user satisfaction regarding existing trainings, assess continuation of need in existing areas of focus, understand additional topics for desired training development, and assess preferred learning formats.
- Facilitated a review of alternative and complementary learning technologies to explore additional products to enhance All of Us Consortium learning, resulting in the recommendation to transition from Moodle LMS to Absorb LMS for long-term support of All of Us training.
- Developed a successful proposal for FY 24 supplemental LMS funding.
