Barbara Epstein<\/strong>, HSLS director, visited Washington DC on June 15 and 16 as a member of the Joint Legislative Task Force of the Medical Library Association and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries.\u00a0After briefings from David Moore, Senior Director of Government Relations at the Association of American Medical Colleges, Betsy Humphreys, Acting Director of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), and Jerry Sheehan, NLM Director for Policy Development, the Task Force split into three teams to visit congressional offices to advocate support for NIH and NLM.\u00a0Epstein visited the offices of Congressman Mike Doyle (D-PA14), and Senators Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA) and Patrick Toomey (R-PA).<\/p>\n

At the same conference, Collins, along with Anita Kinney, Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, and Christian Minter, \u200eNLM Associate Fellow at Welch Library, Johns Hopkins University, presented “Public Health and Public Libraries: Librarians as Health Literacy First Responders” on June 29.<\/p>\n
