Internships allow students to gain valuable work experience in an academic health sciences library setting and class credits at the same time. Interns are assigned to projects in different areas of HSLS libraries depending on their qualifications and interests.<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor Akyar earned an undergraduate degree in management information systems from Pace University. She is currently working on her MLIS degree a<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4736 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Eleanor1-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Eleanor Akyar\" width=\"240\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Eleanor1-300x270.jpg 300w, https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Eleanor1-1024x921.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Eleanor1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>t Pitt. The majority of Akyar\u2019s work experience has been in the development and project management of computer software applications. She is also a licensed real estate agent. Akyar\u2019s belief that \u201cinformation is power\u201d led her to pursue an advanced degree in library and information science. Akyar is interning in the Reference Department in Falk Library, where she is creating an online exhibit by digitizing a unique collection of images and reports from a World War II field hospital in New Guinea.<\/p>\n<p>Ricardo Figueroa graduated from Towson University where he studied Spanish and piano performance<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4735\" src=\"https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Ricardo1-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Ricardo Figueroa\" width=\"240\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Ricardo1-300x270.jpg 300w, https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Ricardo1-1024x921.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/files\/2011\/04\/Ricardo1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>. He worked as a bilingual information specialist in the Epilepsy Foundation\u2019s library and as a records manager at the Superfund Records Center. Figueroa believes an advanced degree in library science will compliment his past professional experience.
