These HSLS staff members celebrated significant employment anniversaries in the 2025\/2026 academic year. In honor of their milestones, we asked each of them to tell us about themselves and their work at HSLS.<\/p>\n

Tell us what you do in your current position at HSLS.<\/h4>\n
I think my official job heading at Pitt is “Lead Server Manager, Systems Engineer II.”<\/p>\n
Prior to your current position, what other positions did you hold at Pitt or within HSLS?<\/h4>\n
I used to work in the computing labs as a student (Hillman Library). I believe I\u2019ve held Systems Programmer I, II, III and IV positions at HSLS.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s your favorite part of working at HSLS?<\/h4>\n
The very nice people at HSLS.<\/p>\n
If you could invent one new piece of technology to make your life easier, what would it be?<\/h4>\n
Cloaking device, like in Star Trek, but a personal size.<\/p>\n
Tell us what you do in your current position at HSLS.<\/h4>\n
As the Assistant Director for Administrative Operations, I am responsible for all of those behind-the-scenes administration duties to keep the library moving. Some of those responsibilities include creating the annual budget, monitoring and tracking our spending, coordinating actions with the Office of Human Resources, hiring, and making sure that I am able to get to everyone in the library the tools and supplies they need to do their job.<\/p>\n
Prior to your current position, what other positions did you hold at Pitt or within HSLS?<\/h4>\n
I have been with HSLS since 2011, starting as the contract administrator for the NNLM federal contract and have moved to where I am now. Prior to HSLS, I was a financial coordinator with CTSI and a research assistant in the Department of Family Medicine.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s your favorite part of working at HSLS?<\/h4>\n
My favorite part of working here is being around a group of focused, hardworking, and creative people. We have a strong group who all take responsibility in their work and helping others. That is something I am grateful to be a part of and isn\u2019t something to take for granted.<\/p>\n
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?<\/h4>\n
Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends and family. Whether it\u2019s watching my son, Rory, grow into someone I\u2019m incredibly proud of, or enjoying laughs with my wife, Teresa, and those close to us, those moments are what I value most.<\/p>\n

Julia Dahm \u2013 15 years<\/h3>\nJulia Dahm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Tell us what you do in your current position at HSLS.<\/h4>\n
As Assistant Director for Technology Integration and Fulfillment Servies, I lead a fantastic team that includes the Main Desk, technology services, and communications\/design. I lead production of the HSLS Update and other newsletters, and I coordinate our library events, activities, and exhibit logistics. If you need a calendar, best practices doc, tracking table, survey, or software workflow, I\u2019m always ready to lean into our technology portfolio, coordinate colleagues, and initiate new projects.<\/p>\n
Prior to your current position, what other positions did you hold at Pitt or within HSLS?<\/h4>\n
I actually started at HSLS as a Pitt undergrad, working the front desk at the former WPIC library. Since then, I\u2019ve had consecutive positions at Falk Library: Computer and Media Center student\/intern (2008-2010), Technology Services Librarian (2010-2018) and Coordinator of Technology Integration Services (2018-2021).<\/p>\n
What\u2019s your favorite part of working at HSLS?<\/h4>\n
It is seeing a project that I worked on in the early stages be nurtured into something much bigger. This ties into my love of creative projects, and for me, shows how supportive and dynamic my colleagues are at HSLS. For instance, I digitized the first set of Scope and Scalpel videos and implemented new accessible technology at the library. Both of those initiatives scaled up to a whole new position at HSLS, where my colleague continues to make great impact. We also now have a communication and design role that expands significantly on some of my early work with social media and digital signage. I started taking pictures and doing text entry for the HSLS Update, and that evolved into me managing the full HSLS Update as well as our picture archive, chronicling our department over time.<\/p>\n
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?<\/h4>\n
Mostly I\u2019m with my two energetic kids or cuddling with our two fluffy cats. When I get a chance, I enjoy getting out to concerts: Paul McCartney last year was a big highlight for me, and I love going out to see my husband play trumpet in his Blues Brothers tribute band year-round.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
