Register for The NIH Policy for Data Management & Sharing: Catalog vs. Repository for Restricted Datasets<\/a>*<\/p>\n Love Data Week 2023<\/a> features this online workshop to help researchers who are preparing for the NIH’s Policy for Data Management and Sharing<\/a> (DMS Policy).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Newly in effect as of January 25, 2023, the DMS Policy requires NIH-funded researchers to prospectively submit a plan outlining how scientific data from their research will be managed and shared. It does not<\/strong>, however, create a uniform requirement to share all scientific data, but conveys \u201can expectation that researchers will maximize appropriate data sharing when developing plans\u201d with the acknowledgement that certain factors (i.e., ethical, legal, or technical) may some sharing to be limited.<\/p>\n While broad sharing may not be feasible for all datasets, steps can still be taken to share information about the dataset, including a description, size, and instructions for restricted access. One way to share this information (also known as metadata) is to include the dataset in the Pitt Data Catalog<\/a> (PDC), which has been designed as a low-barrier way for researchers to make their data discoverable without the need to deposit into a repository.<\/p>\n After attending this workshop, you will be able to:<\/p>\n\n
