Also referred to as \u201cHSLS MolBio,\u201d our service has supported Pitt researchers since 2002. How do we do this?<\/p>\n<p>HSLS MolBio follows a four-facet approach with the following goals:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify, procure and implement <a href=\"https:\/\/hsls.libguides.com\/molbio\/licensedtools\/resources\">commercially licensed bioinformatics software<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Teach <a href=\"https:\/\/hsls.libguides.com\/MolBioWorkshops\">hands-on workshops<\/a> using bioinformatics tools to solve research questions.<\/li>\n<li>Provide in-person and e-mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/ask-a-molbio-specialist\">consultations<\/a> on software\/databases.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/molbio\">web portal<\/a> providing overall guidance on the access and use of bioinformatics resources and MBIS-created web tools.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><!--more-->The web tools we developed include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/preprint\">bioPreprint<\/a>, a search engine for preprints, providing cutting-edge, yet-to-be published or peer-reviewed biomedical research articles retrieved from Europe PMC (PubMed Central) with results refined via topic clustering.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/molbio\/infobooster\">InfoBoosters<\/a>, a one-click browser widget that integrates digital text with databases to retrieve relevant information on demand.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/obrc\/\">Online Bioinformatics Resource Collection (OBRC)<\/a>, containing annotations and links for 2,443 bioinformatics databases and software tools and a filtered PubMed search for additional resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The three-member HSLS MolBio team is led by Ansuman Chattopadhyay, PhD in Biochemistry. Sri Chaparala, Masters in Applied Biotechnology, provides consultations and trainings on next-gen sequencing analysis and other bioinformatics resources.
