This repository makes datasets resulting from NIH-funded research accessible by providing a way for NIH researchers to meet data sharing requirements of grants, journals, or institutions when a subject-specific repository is not an option. <!--more-->As stated in the repository\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nih.figshare.com\/f\/faq\">FAQs<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Figshare is not designed to replace any existing <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/NIHbmic\/nih_data_sharing_repositories.html\"><em>NIH-related repository<\/em><\/a><em>. For NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) with existing repositories, Figshare is a supplemental option for any data that may not fit in an existing repository.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Some important notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are no fees to deposit data into NIH Figshare.<\/li>\n<li>Each dataset uploaded will receive a persistent DOI (Digital Object Identifier), allowing for proper attribution and tracking of impact metrics.<\/li>\n<li>Large and\/or many files can be uploaded with ease through <a href=\"https:\/\/figshare.com\/tools\">Figshare\u2019s desktop uploader<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.figshare.com\/\">API<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Each user has a storage quota limit of 100GB, however more storage can be requested by clicking on the \u201cRequest more storage\u201d button at the top of your \u201cMy data\u201d page.<\/li>\n<li>An embargo period can be placed on uploaded datasets.<\/li>\n<li>Review of all submitted data will ensure there is no personally identifiable information in the data and metadata prior to being published and made discoverable.<\/li>\n<li>Anything uploaded to the repository will be <a href=\"https:\/\/nih.figshare.com\/f\/faq\">maintained<\/a> past the yearlong pilot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Librarians from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsls.pitt.edu\/data-services\">HSLS Data Services<\/a> team are available to consult with any researcher that may have questions about this new repository or need help preparing their data for deposit.\u00a0Please contact us at <a href=\"mailto:HSLSDATA@pitt.edu\">HSLSDATA@pitt.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>~Melissa Ratajeski<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In July 2019, NIH and Figshare announced the one-year pilot launch of a general data repository for all NIH-funded researchers: NIH Figshare.
