Information was current at time of publication.{"id":11170,"date":"2018-07-24T12:09:15","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T16:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/?p=11170"},"modified":"2018-08-06T10:43:04","modified_gmt":"2018-08-06T14:43:04","slug":"data-sharing-statement-policy-for-clinical-trials-enacted-july-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/info.hsls.pitt.edu\/updatereport\/data-sharing-statement-policy-for-clinical-trials-enacted-july-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Sharing Statement Policy for Clinical Trials Enacted July 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmje.org\/about-icmje\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)<\/a> is a working group of medical journal editors that makes recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing, and publication of scholarly work in medical journals. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmje.org\/journals-following-the-icmje-recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journals<\/a> that state they follow the ICMJE recommendations include: <em>Academic Medicine, American Journal of Epidemiology, Cancer Nursing, Chest, Circulation, Immunology &amp; Cell Biology, Journal of Dental Hygiene<\/em>, and <em>Radiology.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>These <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommendations<\/a> cover a range of topics, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>defining the roles of authors<\/li>\n<li>conflicts of interest<\/li>\n<li>corrections, retractions, republications and version control, and copyrights<\/li>\n<li>advertising<\/li>\n<li>clinical trials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>As of July 1, 2018,<\/strong> manuscripts submitted to ICMJE journals reporting on the results of clinical trials must include a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/browse\/publishing-and-editorial-issues\/clinical-trial-registration.html#two\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data sharing statement<\/a>. Data sharing statements must indicate the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if individual de-identified participant data will be shared;<\/li>\n<li>details of the data that will be shared (inclusion of data dictionaries, study protocol, statistical analysis plan, etc.);<\/li>\n<li>when the data will become available and for how long; and<\/li>\n<li>by what access criteria data will be shared (including with whom, for what types of analyses, and by what mechanism).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of such statements are available on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmje.org\/recommendations\/browse\/publishing-and-editorial-issues\/clinical-trial-registration.html#two\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICMJE Website<\/a>. As noted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctsi.pitt.edu\/documents\/Pitt_Research_Conduct.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pitt\u2019s Research Conduct and Compliance Office<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIf you have provided information in the Individual Participant Data (IPD) Sharing Statement module of your ClinicalTrials.gov study record, you should ensure that this information matches the data sharing statement submitted with the manuscript.
