We are leveraging our connections with Type 1 Diabetes researchers around the world and inviting ALL of them to compete to catalyze innovation and accelerate research towards a practical cure for Type 1 Diabetes.\u00a0 In doing so, we aim to add a solid appreciation of the biology that drives this relentless disease to the current literature and knowledge base.<\/p>\n<p>Type 1 Diabetes is a multifactorial disease that is studied by many scientific disciplines.<a href=\"https:\/\/thesugarscience.org\/\"><strong> thesugarscience<\/strong><\/a>, is partnering with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dknet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dkNET<\/a> (<\/strong>the NIDDK Information Network) to bring the full power of on-line digital resources to the challenge of Type 1 Diabetes.\u00a0 We are inviting you to participate in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/info.thesugarscience.org\/dknet-21-d-challenge\">D-Challenge<\/a><\/strong>, a bio-informatics competition where the winners will claim up to $20,000 in cash prizes to be used to further their research.<\/p>\n<p>Contestants are expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend a kick off meeting for the challenge<\/li>\n<li>Attend regular check points over the course of the Challenge<\/li>\n<li>Utilize multiple on-line resources to develop a hypothesis relevant to the mechanisms, treatment or sequelae of T1D<\/li>\n<li>Manage their data according to FAIR practices for sound science<\/li>\n<li>Share their protocol through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.protocols.io\/\"><strong>protocols.io<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Use on-line tools to provide preliminary in silico data to test their hypothesis<\/li>\n<li>Present their work in a written and oral form to a panel of judges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/info.thesugarscience.org\/dknet-21-d-challenge\"><strong>D-Challenge<\/strong><\/a>, several resource providers have provided some starting materials and tutorials to help jump start hypothesis development.\u00a0 We thank our partners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.signalingpathways.org\/\"><strong>The Signalling Pathways Project<\/strong><\/a>, which has produced a T1D \u201cConsensome\u201d that looks across multiple public transcriptomic datasets to make robust predictions about signaling pathways that are up or down regulated in T1D<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.protocols.io\/\"><strong>protocols.io<\/strong><\/a>, which will host protocols created during the Challenge.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/t1d.hugeamp.org\/\"><strong>The T1D Knowledge Base<\/strong><\/a>, which provides browsing, searching, and analysis of human genetic information linked to T1D.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hirnetwork.org\/\"><strong>HIRN<\/strong><\/a>: Human Islet Research Network providing data sets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ongoing additional
